The Lost Lands

Description Some people claim to have been abducted by aliens. Some of them claim to have been tested or examined. And some of them disappear forever. So do cows, pets and a thousand other animals no one ever realizes.  The Lost Lands are a recursion that appears, initially at least, as a broad African veldt, dotted with loose groves of acacia and baobab trees, streams that swell and shrivel with the seasons, and rough, rocky outcroppings that bake in the harsh sun and offer shelter at night. In the perpetually hot weather, reptilian megafauna roam the Lost Lands, herds of smaller herbivores graze alertly, while larger ones can be found in small family groups. Large solitary hunters compete with smaller predatory packs for the herds, while even smaller bipedal mammals use cunning, tools and tactics to hunt the game. Feral, primitive humans eke out an existence amongst the giant dinosaurs and the smaller, clever raptors, taking shelter in the safety of caves and using their skills of tool making and knowledge of fire to survive in the hostile recursion. Life is grim and difficult but the intelligence of the human natives gives them the edge they need to compete against much larger predators or the smaller, more numerous raptors. That is, until the Greys arrived.  Greys are a shy, scientific race, driven by an insatiable curiosity. Some have learned to travel between recursions in their sleek, saucer shaped vehicles and some of the more daring have even learned how to operate their ships in Sub-standard Physics environments by carrying a micro-recursion ‘bubble’ of Mad Science wherever they go. As...

Whatif

Whatif is a recursion of “what ifs”. That is, it is based on fictional leakage from various alternative history themes. What if there was no mass extinction event that killed the dinosaurs? What if the Nazis won world war 2, the South the civil war, etc. The recursion comprises the original thirteen British colonies in North America and around six hundred miles of ocean including the island of Bermuda. North of the colonies lies a large glacial mass that rises up into an impenetrable wall. The melting of the glacier turns into Niagara falls. There are no great lakes and the Western side of the recursion rises up into a large mountain chain higher then the Appalachians. The mountain range and valleys are home to many Indian tribes that don’t welcome visitors to their territory. The mountains fall off into the Strange. Indian shamans take sprit journeys to the mountain tops meditating on the fractal patterns of the Strange. South, where Florida would begin lies a vast impenetrable swamp inhabited by prehistoric super crocodiles and poisonous reptiles. Several hundred miles out in the Atlantic rest a huge permanent storm. Ships attempting the storm get turned around or come back in tatters or usually, not at all. Many of the inhabitants look East waiting for the storm to lift so that their various empires might come to their aid, but that day will never come. The region of the colonies has a population and wilderness levels consistent with the time period of the American Revolution. However, the technology level is akin to that of the middle ages. Gunpowder does not...

The Lost World

The Lost World results from the accretion of myths and fiction throughout the ages that describe lost lands divergent from modern history. Whether they have been sheltered from or destroyed by the catastrophes that our world has experienced, these worlds contain long forgotten flora and fauna long since extinct on Earth, and species of hominids that have branched off of the human evolutionary tree millions of years ago. The Lost World is a 500 square mile tropical plateau bordered by sheer cliffs that fall into an endless sea of clouds. Pterodactlys circle overhead visible through the jungle canopy as primitive humans and ape-people fight bitter wars over territory and resources. Both have primitive technology that allows them to construct simple shelters, clothes and weapons. However, the leaders and shamans of the human tribes sometimes wield magic that allows them to harness the wild untamed power of the forest, and the spirits that occupy it. A brave few have also managed to tame the more intelligent of the terrible lizards, using them as mounts and pack animals. Victorian England-era explorers traverse the forests and observe the culture of the local inhabitants, sometimes using their superior technology to take sides in the brutal human-ape wars. Deeper still in the jungle lurk the mysterious Saurians. Human and ape alike both know to stay away from their regions of the jungle in which the shrieks and caws of the jungle seem preternaturally quiet. PCs entering The Lost World are explorers, primitive humans or ape-men. Explorers have garb and technology corresponding 1900’s – 1920’s, this includes safari hats, machetes, rifles, canteens, binoculars, TNT, etc…...
